submitted by Kerry Kimbrough

Here are things that neighbors say they like about VMU. Do you agree? In the coming Allandale VMU Survey, you can tell us what you think.

  • Attracts upscale developments
  • Because VMU is more expensive to build, it is more likely to produce attractive, upscale, well-maintained residences and businesses.
  • Makes it easier to shop and eat nearby
  • VMU will bring more places to shop and eat nearby and will be easier to reach by walking.
  • Encourages better public transportation
  • By concentrating new residents on the transit corridors, VMU creates incentives to improve public transportation service to the neighborhood.
  • Attracts more small local business
  • Because VMU businesses have less parking and cater to residents nearby, they will tend to be small and locally-owned.
  • Makes Burnet Road more attractive
  • VMU will be a welcome change from the current mess of poles, billboards, and used car lots.
  • Supports a better growth pattern for Austin
  • VMU will contribute to a city that is more compact, more sustainable, and more livable than suburban sprawl.
  • Increases tax base and stabilizes tax rates
  • Improved development means more tax revenue, which will reduce pressure to increase our tax rates.
  • Creates valuable housing options
  • VMU makes it possible for me to transition from my house to a condo without leaving the neighborhood.
  • Density closer to shops and transit reduces traffic
  • Because VMU makes it easier to commute by transit or to walk to stores, it will reduce car trips.
