Current ANA Executive Committee Members

What follows are short profiles on the Allandale Neighborhood Association's Executive Committee (EC) members. Members of the Executive Committee include the four officers: president (Donna Beth McCormick), vice-president (Peggy Maceo), secretary (Mary Jean Matus), treasurer (Diane Swinney) and seven other members of ANA elected to the EC in the September General Membership meeting. As you can see, we do not have profiles of all the EC members but are working on it.

Mary Jean Matus

How long have you been in Austin?
Moved to Austin in 1975. How long in Allandale? 7 years

What made you decide to join the ANA Board?
It's incredible to me how much people in this NA have put out for the sake of this neighborhood. I guess the biggest reason I decided to join the Board is to be of service - to do my part.

How long have you been involved with the neighborhood association and in what capacity?
I first became involved with the ANA in the fall of 2006 when the Statesman announced plans for the Wal-Mart Supercenter at Northcross. I started working with the fundraising committee shortly thereafter and am proud to have had the opportunity to work with a great team of people to help organize the spring picnic "Celebrate Allandale" and the ANA Masquerade Ball. Although the impetus for these events came from an urgent need to raise funds, I'm very hopeful that these events - and the Tyke and Bike too - will be the first of many - alongside Allandale's 4th of July parade (50+ years and counting).

Donna Beth McCormick

How long have you been in Austin?
I first came to Austin as a student in 1955. I first moved to Allandale as a new bride in 1962 - marriage did not last, but neighborhood did. After working in Dallas, Houston, and living out of state, I moved back to Allandale in 1982 and have lived here since then. My parents moved here in the late 60s, so this has been a place I have been coming to for a long time.

What made you decide to join the ANA Board?
I was asked to join to Board in the summer of 2007. I had always attended neighborhood meetings and been interested, but we have more issues pertaining to growth that need to be addressed and I think that because I am very political, I could help.

How long have you been a Board member?

What made you decide to join the ANA Board? 
The weekend before Allan asked me, I had made a statement in a small group about becoming active in community for change.  I have lived in Allandale for 30 years and figure it is my turn to put in some time to help maintain this great neighborhood.

What one or two things do you like most about Allandale? 
The trees, and the way many of the streets wind around and don't cut all the way through the neighborhood like a grid.

Allan McMurtry

How long have you been in Austin? How long in Allandale?
I first moved to Austin to go to school in 1967. My wife and I bought our first home in Allandale in 1976 after unknowingly defining the area of search to fit the old Allandale boundaries.

What made you decide to join the ANA Board?
I have always been interested in land use issues. Zoning, deed restrictions, resubdivision. All have huge impacts on the character of a neighborhood. The ranch style homes in Allandale are certainly under attack. I felt that maybe my knowledge might be useful in neighborhood planning.

Joe Reynolds

How long have you been in Austin ? How long in Allandale?
I moved from Dallas in 1960 to go to school. I stayed and worked at Tracor for 40 years on many research projects. We moved to our present house in 1979.

What made you decide to join the ANA Board?
This is a period of change in Austin and in Allandale and I have time to give to preserve our neighborhood

Tom Linehan

How long have you been in Austin? How long in Allandale?
I have lived in Austin for 26 years. I attended UT and stayed. I've lived in Allandale since 1984. My wife and I originally lived on Carleen. Seven years ago we moved to Bullard   Dr.

What made you decide to join the ANA Board?
I was asked to be considered when a vacancy came open a few months ago. As the webmaster of the website I was hesitant to get any more involved. Maintaining and growing the website keeps me busy enough.
