Great Northern Repaved

Late last week city crews resurfaced Great Northern Boulevard. The new surface is asphalt and very smooth to walk and cycle on. As of Saturday they had not put down the striping for the hike and bike lane. A side benefit of the resurfacing is it cleared out the grass and weeds that had grown up along the curb. Not only does it look nicer it's safer for the non-car traffic.

oops, forgot to add. Neighbors can help by calling 311 to report that the re-striping is wrong.. it will help draw attention to the issue. It will help the neighborhood as we continue to work with the city to respond to Allandale-greenspace issues.

Agreed, the placement of the reflective markers is concerning. I am working the phones to get clarification on the final striping plan. If anyone else is working this issue, please drop me an email so we can combine efforts.

In addition to the width concerns, there is also concern about the lane designations. Based on neighbor reports, there is some confusion in the cycling community about the rights of pedestrians to use the lane.

The repaving is great. However, the markings for the strips are in the wrong place. The bike lane is now extremely small and dangerous. The strips need to be moved at least 1'- 1.5' to the east for safety reasons as well as that is where they were to start with.
