The McCallum Knights took on the Johnston Rams last Thursday
night at House Park in their second district game, and when the dust had
settled the Knights came home with a 60 to 7 win.
McCallum’s defense again set the pace for the game holding
the Rams to just 24 yards rushing on 20 carries and 132 yards passing, most of
which was gained on a 74 yard touchdown pass in the 4th quarter for
Johnston’s lone score.
The Knights defense was showcased by strong play from
Jamal Stevens, Clete Donovan, Jamal Herring, Michael Harris, Jonathan Fisher,
Marshall Giddings, and Hudson Stancliff. The Knight’s defense kept the Rams
bottled up on the Rams side of the field most of the game, allowing the Knights
to have several short yardage scoring drives.
The Knights offense continued to look well balanced posting
176 yards rushing on 29 carries, and 171 passing on 9 catches. McCallum was
lead in rushing by Kendrick Perkins posting 50 yards in 6 carries. The Knights
receiving corps was lead by Xavier Jefferson who caught 3 passes for 119 yards.
The MAC front offense line continued to keep the opposition away from the
quarterback, allowing Kevin Lusson to complete 8 of 10 passes with 0
interceptions, for 159 yards.
McCallum jumped ahead in the game very quickly, which
allowed them to substitute at will and gave most of the players some valuable
extended playing time. When so many players get involved in the game it shows
that football in a total team sport.
Next week the Knights take on the Reagan Raiders on Thursday
night at 7pm at House Park.
