RG4N Meeting in Today's Paper

The Austin American-Statesman reported on last night's Responsible Growth for Northcross meeting held at St. Louis that was attended by over 500 area residents. You can read the story, "Neighbors plan protest, boycott of Wal-Mart," here.  What follows are highlights of the meeting from Allandale's C Yang:

Vision
Jim Duncan and Jeff Clark (an independent city planner and architect) presented a vision of what Northcross could look like - which would allow for 85k sf office, 325k retail, 480k residence and 425k public space (my numbers might be off).
Legal
Brad Rockwell with Scanlon, Buckle and Young was on hand to talk about a lawsuit (suing Lincoln and City Council separately).

Jennifer Kim (stopped in)
Spoke about a mixed use, family friendly, vibrant urban development that's a safe, liveable vision for Austin.  "This supercenter doesn't work...it belongs on a frontage road." She went on to say "We need to make sure Wal-Mart and Lincoln Properties knows that this is their project.... This could be their last project ever in Austin."

Next Steps
RG4N will ask Lincoln to sit down before 2/10 to 1) extend a true moratorium, 2) partner with Lincoln to work in good faith and present ideas that will make Lincoln money.

ANC
Laura Morrison of the Austin Neighborhood Council also spoke about presenting the plan from all 5 neighborhoods (vs 5, separately) and the common shared priorities for all 5 were: traffic, hours of operation, uses, size/design and local business. (A draft report has been sent to the NA's to be signed off on).
