Shoal Creek Sidewalks Update
Update From Darryl Haba, City of Austin Project Manager:
Just wanted to provide a brief update. All work along Shoal Creek between Allandale and Hancock is complete. We have about two weeks worth of work between Hancock and about 47th Street then the entire stretch from 38th to Allandale will be complete. City crews started the road repairs (new asphalt) between Allandale and Hancock on Monday. This area will be milled down and new asphalt installed. We also started new sidewalk construction along the west side of Shoal Creek close to Foster and are working south.
We have had at times up to four crews working between 38th and Allandale and we have made very good progress. The recent rains have set us back a bit but it gives us the opportunity to catch up on smaller details. We have been very focused on constructing as much sidewalk as possible as quick as possible and from time to time have not been keeping up with the finer details of cleaning up and resodding as quick as we should have. I met with the contractor and our design Engineer that is in the field daily and stressed the importance of site clean up and returning the area as we found it in a much quicker timeframe. I know that the contractor discussed these issues with the field crews and hopefully we can do a better job of this.
Again, weather permitting, we will be complete with all work from 38th to Allandale in about two weeks and will proceed with three crews north of Allandale on Shoal Creek. I hope the new sidewalk and stone walls, where they are constructed, make the community happy and provide a safer neighborhood environment. As we have progressed along, we have noticed many people using the sidewalks. Utilizing input residents have been providing has been making this project a success, one that I hope also is making the neighborhood happy.
