History is Made with Knights Win

submitted by Tom Davis

Hold the Presses!!!! This just in!  History was made last Saturday afternoon at the Round Rock Athletic Complex! The McCallum Knight Football team pulled off the victory of the year with a win over the previously unbeaten and state ranked Lake Travis Cavaliers, 37 to 35.

McCallum entered the Palace on Parmer as underdogs, in everyone’s estimations, to take on the highflying Cavaliers of Lake Travis. Both teams had just come off comeback playoff victories; the Cavs were unbeaten for the year and favored to win by all of the high school football gurus. The Knights took to the field Saturday and proved them all wrong, in what had to be one of the most exciting games of the year, if not in the history of McCallum High School.

No Big Box Going Here

6800_burnet_photoAllandale Veterinary Clinic, a small liquor store, and possibly a restaurant, a fabric store or a retail store specializing in Dining Interiors are tenants planned for the new retail center going in at 6800 Burnet Rd. The land, just across from Curras and Roger Beasley Mazda was formerly occupied by Bishop's Automotive, and before that, Holiday House. It's been vacant since November 2003 and recently razed. The local developer, Sam Buford, has been working  on plans for the development since that time. Construction 6800_burnet_photo2will begin before year end with the first tenants moving in by April or May of 2006. There are a number of car lots up and down Burnet. Roger Beasley will soon be opening a Mitsubishi dealership where his Mazda dealership was. A retail center amidst the group will be a welcomed change.

The Votes are in

Scb_vote_1I went by Gullett around 2:30 yesterday  to  cast my vote on the SCB options and noticed a number of people coming by to do the same. The City staff worker there said there had been a steady stream of folks dropping off their ballots since they opened up at 9:00.

CORRECTION. Public Works staff originally planned to take stakeholders’ input on re-striping the road to the Subcommittee on Land Use and Transportation on November 14 and then to Council on December 1.  That has been changed to  Monday, December 12 for the Subcommittee and Thursday, December 15 for Council.

There are no plans on releasing the tally prior to that meeting.
