What's Next?

Yesterday's city council voted to do away with the curb extensions. Now what? It's not clear. Here's today's article in the Austin American-Statesman on yesterday's vote. You can find the "closed captioning transcript"   here and read the observations from Allandale's Kerry Kimbrough who attended the session. You can monitor and participate in the discussion on SCB on the Shoal Creek Boulevard listserv.

ANA Resolution to City Council

At the September 28, 2005 General Meeting of the Allandale Neighborhood Association at which approximately 50 residents were present, the following resolution was proposed to the membership by a neighbor and unanimously approved:

"Be it resolved that the Allandale Neighborhood Association request City Council to postpone the vote on the Shoal Creek Boulevard Project (Item 38 on the 9/28/05 agenda) and receive citizen input on the restriping of Shoal Creek Boulevard".

The Allandale Neighborhood Association is not endorsing any particular plan but is requesting that the Allandale neighborhood be involved in any planning process for Shoal Creek Boulevard, particularly if the curb islands are to be removed.

Allandale Neighborhood Association Meeting

Amys_week_18_005Our September meeting is this Wednesday, 9/28, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Yarborough Library on Hancock Drive.

We will begin with a presentation by APD on traffic enforcement in the neighborhood. They were originally going to discuss the neighborhood watch program, however, they requested to do this topic. We will have them back to talk about the neighborhood watch program since so many had inquired about this during the summer.

We have 2 other issues on the agenda. We anticipate wrapping the meeting up by 7:30.

Thank you....

Gretchen Vaden Nagy
President, ANA

McCallum’s Varsity Plug Up the Dripping Springs Tigers

The McCallum Knights hosted the Dripping Springs Tigers Friday night at House Park. The Tigers drew first blood on the scoreboard on their second possession of the game, scoring the first touchdown of the game off a recovered MAC fumble. Adding on the point after touchdown the scoreboard read Tigers 7, Knights 0. On the Knights’ very next possession, the fumble bug infected the Knights, turning the ball over again to the Tigers. This time the Knights defense held and forced the Tigers to attempt a field goal, which missed the uprights. Momentum seemed to be shifting from the Dripping Springs side to the McCallum side after the missed field goal.

Video of Sub Committee Mtg on SCB

Here's a link to a video taken by Jake Knobloch of Monday's Sept. 12th sub committee meeting regarding Shoal Creek   Blvd. To view it, download this video player (DivX Player). I was unable to view it in my Windows Media Player. After you've extracted and opened the player, right click in the lower right box and select "Open URL." Enter in this URL: http://www.jakethesnake.net/scb/scb-09122005.avi and click OK. The video is approximately 1 hr and 13 minutes in length. I am unable to help with problems opening/viewing the video, however, it's worth a try because I found the recording of citizen comments and the subcommittee's remarks informative. Thanks to Jake for the submission.

McCallum Varsity Came Up Short Against the New Braunfels Canyon Cougars

McCallum hosted the Canyon Cougars at House Park last Friday night in a rematch of last year’s only regular season loss for the Knights.

The first quarter of the game looked like the fans were going to be in store for another defensive battle game. Both teams exchanged three downs and out possessions with the exception of McCallum completing a 30-yard pass ...

Speeding on SCB and Stop Signs

I know there was a lot posted on curb extender and speeders on Shoal Creek Blvd.  There have been some questions raised as to what will be APD's response on dealing with the speeders.  There is a plan of action being developed.

From SPO David Crowder

I just goit back from vacation and was going through my long list of emails.

This concerned me and I wanted to let everyone know about it. Hopefully the TV news and the print news ran with this. For those that do not know what I am talking about, several people have been robbed by individuals posing as city workers.  One of the emails described the a suspect as;

Parrots in Allandale

Parrot_zoomWith all the recent postings to the listserv about parrots in the neighborhood, we naturally had to have pictures. Sarah de la Fuente, 2222 & Mopac/Susie Court, came through with this one with the promise of more to come:

"Well, the parrots came back tonight – maybe because I watered the yard.  The big flock flew when I went out, but I did capture these photos of one that remained and squawked at me.  These actually aren’t the best photos, but I zoomed as much as I could with my little digital . . . I hope they’ll be ok for now. . .  I’ll keep trying for a flock picture!  Sarah"
